Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has granted accreditation until March 31, 2023, to the following programs: Addiction Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Student Affairs & College Counseling.
Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
The Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences & Education’s educator preparation programs were reviewed by an onsite team in Spring 2017 and were granted accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, effective through 2024.
Youngstown State University education preparation programs, including teacher, principal, superintendent, school counselor, school nurse, and school psychologist licensure programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. These programs are subject to the sections of the Ohio law and regulations governing teacher education and licensure. The Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences & Education serves as the recommending agent for all Youngstown State University graduates who wish to qualify for the state of Ohio licensure.
National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD)
The art education program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the national accrediting body for art schools.
National Association of Schools of Music (NASM)
The music education program, hosted by the Dana School of Music, is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the national accreditation body in the field of music.

First-time International undergraduate students’ tuition rate is established based on first enrollment and remains unchanged for four consecutive years. Graduate students should plan for a yearly tuition increase of approximately 5%.

Applicants must have graduated from high school or have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) test to be considered for admission. Freshman applicants applying for admission to Youngstown State University must submit a high school transcript or GED transcript. Submission of American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores is optional. Please note: some majors require test scores to be admitted into the program.
Applicants must have a cumulative weighted high school grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher, a core unweighted grade point average* of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher and have an ACT composite score of 17 or higher or a SAT composite score of 920 or higher (evidence-based writing and reading and math) to be admitted unconditionally. (*Core gpa is calculated based on grades earned in the following courses – English, mathematics, science, social science and foreign language, if applicable, from 9th through 12th grade).
