But they’re also working professionals, involving students in their daily research. You don’t have to go to Silicon Valley to see the latest advances in modern electronics; that happens in our backyard.
Opportunity doesn’t knock, because it’s already at our students’ doorstep. Take our STEM Professional Services, for example. Its sole purpose is to place our students in pre-professional internships.

Our graduates are employed as web developers, programmers and network administrators. You’ll learn to write code and debug websites and apps. Want to make robots? Construct solar panels? Test ballistics? You can do that here. We have nine modern labs, each with its own specific focus.

We employ analytical materials instrumentation not found anywhere else in the region, and incorporate research activities from the YSU Center of Excellence in Materials Science and Engineering and the Ohio Hub for Innovation and Opportunity in Advanced Materials Commercialization.

The YSU-BaccMed program is a premier program for premier students committed to primary health care, particularly for medically underserved populations. Students graduating from this program will have the scientific and mathematical foundations, medical training, and logistical and sociological tools to build a professional, scientific career in providing state-of-the-art medical care to underserved populations as primary care physicians.
BACHELOR’S DEGREE
Moser Hall, located in the center of campus, houses the STEM College – Ohio’s first and only college dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The College of STEM faculty are not only academic experts, but also working professionals who involve students in their daily research. First completed in 1967, a later effort to enhance the building was completed in the fall of 1996, bringing Moser further into its future. In addition to 71 research and scheduled laboratories, it holds classrooms, research and development areas, conference rooms, and faculty and staff offices. Moser also houses the 200-seat state-of-the-art Schwebel Auditorium, as well as the Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum.

Tuition and fees may vary by major, college, area of study or based on your location. The university reserves the right to assess fees for special services and programs applicable to students. First-time International undergraduate students’ tuition rate is established based on first enrollment and remains unchanged for four consecutive years. Graduate students should plan for a yearly tuition increase of approximately 5%.

Applicants must have graduated from high school or have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) test to be considered for admission. Freshman applicants applying for admission to Youngstown State University must submit a high school transcript or GED transcript. Submission of American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores is optional. Please note: some majors require test scores to be admitted into the program.
Applicants must have a cumulative weighted high school grade point average of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher, a core unweighted grade point average* of 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher and have an ACT composite score of 17 or higher or a SAT composite score of 920 or higher (evidence-based writing and reading and math) to be admitted unconditionally. (*Core gpa is calculated based on grades earned in the following courses – English, mathematics, science, social science and foreign language, if applicable, from 9th through 12th grade).
