Program Overview
Welcome to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) – Nurse Anesthesia option at Youngstown State University. This demanding, full-time, three-year program prepares registered nurses to become highly skilled and autonomous anesthesia providers.
Our DNP – Nurse Anesthesia curriculum combines rigorous coursework, intensive simulations, and diverse clinical experiences to foster competency in anesthesia practice across the lifespan.
Throughout their studies, students will explore topics such as pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, professional role development, and nurse anesthesia practices. Our graduates not only achieve advanced clinical competency but also skills in research, leadership, health policy, system improvements, and the application of evidence-based practices.
The program adheres to the standards set by the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, ensuring a rigorous, up-to-date, and professionally relevant learning experience.
This program is designed for registered nurses who are ready to take the next step in their careers. Ideal candidates have a strong nursing background, excel in fast-paced and demanding environments, and are passionate about improving patient care.
As certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), our graduates play a critical role in providing anesthesia care in various healthcare settings. Apart from administering anesthesia, CRNAs also provide pain management services, and emergency services, and oversee patients’ recovery from anesthesia.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of nurse anesthetists is projected to grow 45% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. This robust job growth is influenced by an aging population and increased chronic disease prevalence, which is driving demand for highly skilled healthcare providers like CRNAs.
Embrace a fulfilling, high-impact career in healthcare with the Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia option at Youngstown State University. Join us and elevate your nursing practice while making a substantial impact in the realm of patient care.
