The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Performance offers exceptional, individualized applied studio instruction and a comprehensive curriculum to equip students like you with the skills needed to excel as a performer, educator, arranger, producer, and more.

Music Performance majors can enroll in one of four concentrations: Instrumental, Jazz, Piano, or Voice. Each curriculum includes diverse ensemble offerings, including large and chamber performance experiences as well as solo and collaborative opportunities.
Dana School of Music graduates often pursue careers as symphony musicians, university professors, concert soloists, or band or orchestra conductors. As a student in the Dana School of Music, you’ll have access to numerous world-class stages and studios. You’ll perform in a variety of exquisite and historic spaces, ranging from an intimate 300-seat hall to a large-scale performance and production venue that seats over 2,300 attendees. You’ll also perform in concerts and recitals in experimental venues, a black box theater, museums, and other nontraditional settings.

The state-of-the-art Dana Recording Studio provides all Music Performance majors with the opportunity to graduate with a professionally-produced audio recording suitable for auditions and portfolios.

YSU’s Dana School of Music is home to more than two dozen student bands, orchestras, choral ensembles, chamber music groups, and more. As a student in the department, you have the opportunity to join any of our ensembles, such as the Electronic Music Ensemble.
The majority of ensembles require an audition. All ensembles are open to non-music majors given that they complete any required audition.
