YSU’s Radiologic Technology program is a 22-month, on-campus program that combines classroom learning, hands-on lab training, and clinical experience to prepare students for careers in diagnostic imaging.
Students gain the skills to become entry-level radiologic technologists and are eligible to take the ARRT national certification exam after completing the program.

A cohort is a group of students who start a program at the same time and move through it together. In YSU’s Radiologic Technology program, you’ll take classes, complete clinical experiences, and work toward graduation with the same group of students.

Admission to YSU’s Radiologic Technology program is competitive. Unlike many cohort programs that require college prerequisites before a spring start, YSU radiologic technology students begin the program in the fall without an additional semester of college prerequisites.
The program welcomes one new cohort each fall semester. This means timing is important, especially for high school seniors who want to begin the program after graduation.
Students interested in starting the following fall need to complete the admission requirements and apply during their senior year. If you miss the application deadline, you’ll need to wait until next year’s cohort to apply.
Requirement | What You Need |
Age and Education | Be at least 18 before classes begin in August and have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent. |
GPA | Minimum of 3.0 high school GPA. If you’ve completed college coursework, your college record may be used instead. Current/former YSU and transfer students, including CCP/YREC, need a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. |
Prerequisite Courses | Complete Math, Biology and Chemestry or physical science within the last 5 year with a C or higher. |
Writing | Be eligible for ENGL 1549 or 1550, or have completed college-level Writing I with a C or higher. |
Shadowing | Complete 4 hours of shadowing with a certified Radiologic Technologist at a hospital. |
ATI TEAS Exam | Earn an overall score of 66% or higher. |
Important: Prerequisite courses must have been completed within the last five years with a grade of C or higher. If your coursework is older than five years, those courses must be repeated at the college level before applying.

YSU’s Radiologic Technology program is offered at both the Youngstown and Steubenville locations, giving students two options for where to complete the program.
Each location has its own cohort and separate application process, so students must submit a request for Review and application for the location they want to attend. However, the admission requirements and application deadlines are the same for both locations.
Students should also consider transportation and housing when choosing a location. Clinical experiences may be up to 100 miles from campus, so students need reliable transportation to both classes and clinical sites.
Students planning to attend the Steubenville location should also know that on-campus housing is not available at that location
