Program Overview
The Master of Science in Chemistry program prepares the student for practice as a professional chemist by teaching academic fundamentals, creative and independent thinking through independent study and research, and leadership skills through interaction with undergraduate students as graduate teaching assistants (thesis track only).
Our MSc Chemistry program is designed to provide comprehensive and in-depth training in various areas of chemistry. This includes analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. In this program, you can expect to gain impressive theoretical foundations and the ability to perform various laboratory techniques and analytical procedures effectively.
Coordinated by highly experienced and well-published faculty, the course is structured to meet the needs of today’s fast-paced world. The curriculum includes one-on-one mentoring with faculty, flexible course offerings that can accommodate full-time or part-time students, and an emphasis on research-oriented learning and independent thinking.
The chemistry program is also excellent preparation for further advanced study at other institutions, leading to a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or a professional degree in chemistry-related fields. The department has state-of-the-art instrumentation facilities and a wide assortment of instruments readily available for student and faculty research including two powder- and three single-crystal X-ray diffractometers, a transmission electron microscope, a Focused Ion Beam/Scanning Electron Microscopy system, two 400 MHz NMRs, FTIR, ICP-AES, AA, GC-MS, LC-MS, high-resolution MS, several HPLCs, X-ray fluorescence, thermogravimetric analyzers, differential scanning calorimeter, gel permeation chromatograph, diode array spectrophotometers, and electrochemical systems.
MS in Chemistry Program Options
Our 4+1 program track allows undergraduate students to earn graduate credit and graduate with their master’s degree in 5 years from start to finish.
The STEM community has a variety of student professional organizations that allow you to grow and foster your learning in an environment with those who share the same interests.
Student professional organizations provide opportunities for you to meet experienced professionals, collaborate with students at other universities, or form relationships with colleagues outside the classroom. They provide social, academic, entrepreneurial, and professional networking opportunities.
Each year, thousands of dollars in scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Scholarships come from a variety of sources, vary in amount, and are available to both incoming and current STEM students. Below, you will find further information regarding the opportunities that may be available to you through the STEM College.
