The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice program at Youngstown State University is designed to prepare students for careers in municipal, state, and private police agencies, as well as for roles in local, state, federal, and private correctional facilities. Students gain foundational knowledge and hands-on experience that enable them to evaluate the impact of the criminal justice system at its key subsystems—policing, courts, and corrections—apply relevant theories, and assess complex legal scenarios.
Success in the Criminal Justice field requires a combination of technical knowledge, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to navigate high-pressure environments. Through practical training and interdisciplinary coursework, students in the Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice program develop the competencies needed to interact professionally with diverse populations, collaborate across agencies, and adapt to various public safety and correctional settings.
