Fast-Track Your Law Degree with YSU’s 3+3 Philosophy Program

Earn Your Law Degree Sooner with Our 3+3 Partnerships

Youngstown State University (YSU) offers an accelerated 3+3 Early Admission Program for students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, in partnership with two prestigious law schools:

These 3+3 articulation agreements provide a streamlined path to a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, allowing students to complete both their undergraduate and law degrees in just six years instead of the traditional seven.

How the 3+3 Program Works

With this accelerated pathway, students complete three years of undergraduate coursework at YSU before applying to law school in their junior year. Once admitted:

  • The first year of law school at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, The University of Akron School of Law or Cleveland State University College of Law counts as the final year of undergraduate coursework.
  • After successfully completing the first year of law school, students receive their Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from YSU.
  • Students then complete two additional years of law school to earn their Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

By eliminating one full year of study, this program reduces overall tuition costs and allows students to enter the legal profession one year earlier than traditional pathways.

Why Choose YSU’s 3+3 Program?

  • Time and Cost Savings – Earn both degrees in just six years, reducing tuition costs and accelerating your legal career.
  • Guaranteed Admission Consideration – YSU students meeting GPA and LSAT requirements receive priority admission consideration.
  • Strong Academic Foundation – YSU’s Philosophy Science program provides rigorous coursework in law, government, and policy, ensuring a seamless transition into law school.
  • Prestigious Law Schools – Study at top-tier law institutions with a reputation for academic excellence and strong professional networks.

Eligibility and Admission Requirements

To qualify for the 3+3 program, students must:

  1. Be a Philosophy major at YSU.
  2. Complete all required undergraduate coursework (except final-year electives).
  3. Meet GPA and LSAT score requirements set by the partner law school.
  4. Apply during their junior year for early admission into law school.
