Five Semesters of Real-World Experience in Athletic Training Settings
Proven Success: 100% Job Placement within 6 Months of Graduation
Youngstown State University’s Master of Athletic Training (MAT) is a two-year, on-campus program that prepares students for high-demand careers in sports medicine and allied health. From high schools and colleges to professional sports teams and healthcare clinics, graduates are equipped to thrive in diverse settings.
At YSU, we know that hands-on experience is critical to becoming a confident, capable athletic trainer. That’s why our Master of Athletic Training program includes five semesters of immersive clinical rotations—full-time placements where students take on the real-world responsibilities of athletic trainers under the supervision of seasoned professionals.
Our students gain experience at clinical sites across the country, including prestigious institutions such as Clemson University, University of Maryland, University of Tennessee at Martin, Duquesne University, University of Mount Union, Westminster College, and Walsh University. We also partner with 15 local high schools and leading healthcare systems like Southwoods Health, UPMC, Cleveland Clinic, and Akron Children’s Hospital.
These diverse experiences prepare our graduates to excel in any athletic training environment—from the sidelines to the clinic.
After graduation, students are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam to become certified athletic trainers. With a 100% pass rate, our graduates consistently demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and clinical readiness needed to succeed—launching their careers with confidence and credibility.
