Program Overview
Welcome to the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Youngstown State University. Our program is recognized for its commitment to social justice and the empowerment of vulnerable populations. Through an engaging curriculum and practical experiences, we prepare future social work leaders to tackle complex social issues and enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
Our MSW program offers a comprehensive, 60-credit curriculum that emphasizes both foundational and advanced social work knowledge. Students benefit from a dynamic blend of coursework in areas such as human behavior, social policy, research, and social work practice. The curriculum also includes specialized electives that allow students to focus on specific areas of interest within the field.
The program’s strong emphasis on practical experience prepares students for seamless transition into professional roles. Our Field Education component ensures that students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings, under the guidance of experienced social work professionals.
The Master of Social Work program is ideal for individuals with a passion for social change and a commitment to improving lives in their communities. With a bachelor’s degree in a related field, prospective students should possess strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills along with a solid foundation in human services or social and behavioral sciences.
Graduates of our MSW program can expect diverse career opportunities in various settings, such as schools, hospitals, community organizations, mental health clinics, and government agencies. Job roles for MSW degree holders include clinical social workers, case managers, program directors, and policy advocates.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of social workers is projected to grow 13% from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. This promising job market outlook highlights the value and significance of a Master of Social Work degree.
Embark on a meaningful, rewarding career in social work with Youngstown State University’s MSW program. Join us and take a proactive approach to addressing social challenges and promoting well-being for a more equitable and just society.
