YSU’s Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences is a research-intensive, interdisciplinary program that prepares scholars, educators, and healthcare leaders to shape the future of health and wellness.

Q: Is funding or assistantship support available?
A: No, this program does not offer internal assistantships or funded placements.
Q: Can international students enroll?
A: International students are welcome to apply; however, due to the primarily online format of the program, it may not meet the in-person credit hour requirements for certain visa types. Prospective international students should consult with YSU’s Office of International Programs and their immigration advisor to determine eligibility before applying.
Q: Is the GRE required?
A: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will be required for applicants who do not currently have a graduate degree. Scores of 290 on parts 1 and 2, and 3.5 writing score are recommended.
All applicants applying with a current graduate degree will not be required to take the GRE but will be required to provide 1 example of academic writing and the committee reserves to right to request a second example at their discretion.
Q: How long does the program take to complete?
A: The PhD is not cohort-based, offering flexible progression based on each student’s pace. Most students complete the program in 3 to 4 years, including summer terms. The maximum time to completion is 10 years.
Q: Is the program fully online?
A: Yes, the program is primarily delivered online, though in-person opportunities may be available depending on course availability and student preference.
