Youth Art Month – High School Postcard Exhibition

The Cliffe College of Creative Arts is proud to announce a new exhibition that will celebrate Youth Art Month in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery located on the second floor of Bliss Hall. The “Postcard Exhibition” will feature art works made by high school students from Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Each participating student created a work of art on a postcard-sized piece of paper, similar to something that could be sent through the mail.

“In the decades around 1900, postcards were Twitter, e-mail, Flickr, and Facebook, all wrapped into one,” the Museum of Fine Arts – Boston wrote on their website. “A postcard craze swept the world, as billions of cards were bought, mailed, or just pasted into albums. Many famous artists turned to the new medium, but one of the great pleasures of postcards is how some of the most beautiful and interesting cards were made by artists whose names we barely know. ”

In the spirit of that historical period, local students were invited to showcase their talents on a small scale using a media of their choosing. Some entries mimic traditional postcards highlighting a destination, and others are themed on the artists’ personal interests.

The exhibit will be available to view beginning Monday, February 26, through Thursday, March 21. An opening reception will be held on February 26 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM at the Gallery.

The Judith Rae Solomon Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Entry to the exhibit and reception is free and open to the public.

The event is finished.
