Have you started your college search, but are struggling to find what campus is the right fit for you? Having a tough time differentiating what makes each university unique? Every school posts highlights for prospective students to see- but aren’t you curious to know what it’s really like to be a Penguin? Here, we sit down with current students to find out their favorite parts of joining the YSU family.
What’s your favorite thing about YSU’s location?
There’s tons to do from going to the minor-league hockey games downtown or heading to one of the restaurants around town for a meal. I love the variety and options that being in Youngstown provides!
As a graduate transfer student, what made you decide to come to YSU?
I wanted to continue my student-athlete career here, but also the facilities and resources provided by YSU are something I couldn’t find at other colleges.
Why should prospective students choose YSU?
I personally love how the tuition here is extremely affordable. Also, the facilities available for students are wonderful, and the university provides a lot of on-campus activities for students. I still have my penguin from the free YSU Build-A-Penguin event back in the fall!
Describe or explain your favorite thing (or things!) that YSU offers that your previous school didn’t. In other words, what sets YSU apart from other universities?
I really enjoy the access to endless resources such as mental health counselors, doctors, nutritionists and other staff that are all provided by the University. I also like that there are so many recreational activities and university events that students can participate in to stay active and entertained throughout the week.
Lastly, what’s the best part about being a Penguin to you?
I love the friends I have made here, and how involved the campus community is!
